The Goshen Lady Eagles improved to 4-0 with a three-set sweep over the Flying Squadron of Highland Home Tuesday afternoon.

Although the Lady Eagles cruised in straight sets, 25-10, 25-15 and 25-17, head coach Amy Warrick said that the match wasn’t as smooth as the final score may have indicated.

“It wasn’t pretty,” Warrick said. “We just seemed off balance a little bit today. We had a hard practice yesterday, and just came out a little flat today. We will take a win, but I know we can play better than this.”

After rolling through the opening set, Warrick swapped up the lineup for the second, in order to get younger players some playing time, which she feels might have played a hand in the slow-paced game.

“This (starting) group has played together for a while, so when you sub in and out, it may have thrown them off,” Warrick said.

The win moves Goshen to 4-0 early in the 2013 season. A few weeks ago, Warrick said that the team had goals of making it past the super regional round in the playoffs, and on to the elite eight.

With the dominant start, there is around the small community of possibly bringing home the ultimate prize of a state championship, but Warrick is letting her players buy in to the outside distractions.

“We are not going to allow ourselves to overlook anything,” Warrick said. “We know that any team can catch you on any day. We have long-term goals, but we will take it one game at a time until those goals are reached.”

Goshen returns to the court on Thursday against cross-county rival Pike County.
