Infant medicine sold locally could be part of recall

A U.S. company is voluntarily recalling acetaminophen marketed for use in infants due to a potential defect with the oral syringe packaged with the medicine.
The syringe is without dose markings.
Affected products may have been purchased at Rite-Aid, Walgreens and Walmart. The product is indicated for the relief of fever and minor aches and pains to be used for infants, children and adults.
“There are no issues or concerns with respect to the safety of efficacy of the product, only the potential that the oral dosing device in a relatively small number of packages could be unmarked,” said President and CEO of Perrigo’s, Joseph C. Papa.
The over the counter product, acetaminophen infant suspension liquid, is produced by the Perrigo Company and was potentially sold locally in 2 oz. and 4 oz. bottles with syringes in a box under the store brand names Equate, Walgreens and Rite-Aid.
Pike County residents may have also purchased the Up & Up brand at nearby Target stores, or Publix and Babies R Us brands at those respective stores.
Perrigo is contacting all distributors and asking them to return the recalled products. Consumers should check the oral dosing device contained in the medicine’s package. If a dosing device does not have dose markings, consumers should call Perrigo’s Consumer Affairs Department, toll free, at (800) 719-9260.
