The reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people who gunned down a Spring Hill convenience store clerk is now $10,000.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office initially offered a $2,500 reward. That’s now been combined with a matching reward by the City of Troy and a $5,000 reward offered by Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley’s office.

“We sincerely appreciate the involvement of those agencies, and other law enforcement agencies committed to helping us solve this horrible crime,” said Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas.

About 8 Saturday night, a customer stopped to purchase gas at the Hill Mart on the Elba Highway in Spring Hill. When she went in to pay, she didn’t see clerk, Mike Mills. Instead, she noticed the store in disarray and called 911.

A deputy arrived on scene just minutes later to find Mills had been shot to death and the store’s cash register removed.

“I can’t emphasize strongly enough how much we need the public’s help solving this case,” Thomas said. “We ask the public to stay engaged. We need them to stay interested and involved.”

Thomas said investigators are currently tracking down leads that have come into the sheriff’s office through tips and he’s grateful for the public concern.

Thomas said he will make every effort possible to help those who wish to remain anonymous do so and that anyone with information, no matter how big or small, should call the sheriff’s office to report what they may have heard or seen.

“Someone out there knows something that will help us get justice for this family,” Thomas said.
