At 11 a.m. Monday morning, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a possible home burglary in the Dugan Community.

When police arrived at the scene on County Road 2389 near Henderson, two suspects had fled in to a wooded area around the home.

After a 30-minute search, police were able to apprehend one suspect.

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas praised the homeowner’s quick action in calling the police. “We received a call at about 11 a.m. from a homeowner,” Thomas said. “The call came in from the Dugan Community on County Road 2389 near Henderson. The homeowner had pulled around to the rear of the residence and noticed the glass of the rear door had been knocked out.”

Fearing a burglary, the homeowner called the police. “During the time between the call and our arrival, two male suspects exited the front door and ran in to the wooded area around the house. We responded with several units, and, after an extensive 30-minute search, we located one subject about three miles from the house and took him in to custody.”

The would-be thief had taken a number of items from the home, according to the sheiff. “Two 9 mm handguns, four laptops, a PlayStation and a Citizen wristwatch had been taken from the home,” Thomas said. “When we located the suspect, he had possession of the two handguns. A search of the woods located the remaining items with the exception of the watch.”

Antonio Gregory Price, 19, of Goshen, has been charged with burglary. “A warrant has been issued for a second suspect,” Thomas said. “We are attempting to locate him at this time.”

Thomas said it is important to take extra precautions around the holidays.

“Take every precaution when you leave you home,” Thomas said. “Leave a light on or keep a television on. Watch out for your neighbors and have your neighbors watch out for you. If you are going to be out of town for an extended period, call the department so we can increase patrols in your area.”

Thomas also said it is important to act as the homeowner acted. “It is important to trust your instincts,” Thomas said. “The homeowner today felt like the suspects were possibly still in the house, so he called us. With one of the suspects having the two guns, who knows what might have happened if the homeowner had entered the house. If you feel like your house has been broken in to, don’t go inside. Call us and let us come sort out the situation.”
