CECIL — Girls: Lee-Scott 43, Pike Liberal 32

Pike overcame an early double-digit deficit to cut the Warrior lead to one point in the third quarter, but couldn’t get key shots to fall down the stretch.

The Lad Pats pulled within a single point on an Ellie Barron three early in the third quarter, but saw Lee-Scott go on a 13-4 run to close the quarter, and seal the game late.

Boys: Glenwood 76, Pike Liberal 43

Despite big efforts from seniors Brian Adams and Chan Avant, the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots were no match for the No. 1-ranked Glenwood Gators Friday in the first round of the regional tournament.

Glenwood used its size and quickness to down the Pats in blowout fashion 76-43. The Gators opened the game on a 22-4 run, and never looked back the rest of the game. Pike also started the third quarter cold, allowing Glenwood to score 18-straight points to open the stanza.

Pike coach Gene Allen said his team player hard, but was just no match for Glenwood.

“They got a heck of a team, and came out and played well from the get go,” said Allen. “We played hard, but Glenwood was taller, faster and just better than we are. It’s a tough task to play them. They are No. 1 in the state for a reason.”

Chandler Avant led Pike with 16 points, and Brian Adams added 11 more.
