The phone calls from college coaches come in nearly one right after the other for Charles Henderson linebacker Richard McBryde.

McBryde, a four-star recruit as rated by Rivals and 247Sports, brought his scholarship offers to 11 over the weekend.

LSU, Louisville, Miami, Tennessee, and defending SEC champion Auburn all made formal offers to the junior in the last few days. Those offers combined with previous ones from Kentucky, Troy, UAB, Mississippi State, Georgia Southern, Southern Miss and North Carolina State make McBryde on of the state’s most wanted football players.

But McBryde isn’t letting the attention get to his head.

“All of the offers are blessings to me,” said McBryde. “Every college in America has talent, and to know that these schools would like me to play for them one day means a lot. I know nothing is final though. I have to continue to work hard everyday.”

McBryde led the Trojans to the 2013 AHSAA 4A State Championship Game, and was named Lineman of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

The soft-spoken junior finished the season with 163 tackles, 37.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles.

While McBryde isn’t leaning towards a certain school as of yet, he mentioned two as some of his favorites.

“Auburn and Kentucky are pretty high right now,” said McBryde. “But I am just trying to get bigger, stronger and faster right now. If I do that, the other stuff will happen.”

Charles Henderson head coach Jamey Dubose is yet to coach McBryde in a ball game, but is already excited about how McBryde is handling the added pressure of being a big-time college prospect.

“I have noticed that Richard keeps a level head,” said McBryde. “He is continuing to work hard and continuing to be a leader. He is very mature about what he is going through, and I have no doubt that more offers are coming.”

McBryde plays middle linebacker for the Trojans, but with his above average speed and knack for making plays, Dubose feels a position change could be in McBryde’s future at the next level.

No matter where he lines up, Dubose feels McBryde will be a great addition to a college defense.

“The game today is a little different,” said Dubose. “There are so many teams that spread you our horizontally now, you need a player that can run sideline to sideline. Richard can play in the middle, but he also would be a guy I can see playing outside or as a ‘Jack’ backer up near the line of scrimmage.”

With spring practice right around the corner for Charles Henderson, McBryde has just one thing in mind right now: finishing the job he started last season.

“We made it to the state title game last year,” said McBryde. “I take it on myself to get back there this year. I can’t wait to play college football one day, but I’m all about Charles Henderson right now.”
