Goshen’s Major Lane has been in thousands of close ball games, but said nothing will stick in his mind more than Monday night’s affair.

Lane, a long-time coach and administrator at Pike County and Goshen, was inducted in to the Alabama High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame Monday evening at a ceremony in Montgomery.

“Being around all the good people that were there made me realize how blessed I am to be a part of it,” said Lane. “It is not about me. It is about the community, and the people that embraced me and helped me along the way.”

Lane began his career as a JV coach at Pike County, before moving to Ariton High School for three seasons. He returned to Brundidge in 1987 as varsity basketball coach.

He moved to Goshen in 1993 where he coached basketball through 2002 and compiled a 187-46 record and made two trips to the AHSAA Final Four.

Lane also served as an assistant football coach at Pike County and Goshen, winning a pair of state titles with the Bulldogs in 1988 and 1989.

Lane shared the special night with his wife and daughters, along with several members of the Pike County community, and said the night is “something he will never forget.”

“I was able to stand up and represent the Pike County community, and that meant a lot to me,” said Lane. “From what I have seen I am the first one from Pike County to be in it, and it is a blessing. I am humbled and honored to be a part of it.”
