The Troy Arts Council Auxiliary’s main and only purpose is to support the Troy Arts Council in all its activities and endeavors.
In so doing, Muriel Saunders, Auxiliary president, presented a check to the TAC in the amount of $2,500 to be used to promote the arts in the Troy community.
Ruth Walker, TAC president, expressed appreciation to the Council’s Auxiliary for its continued support, financially and otherwise.
“I don’t know what we would do without the TAC Auxiliary,” Walker said. “It is vital to all that we do and we greatly appreciate each and every member. The Auxiliary supports the TAC in many different ways, from fund-raising to hosting the artists’ receptions at the Johnson Center for the Arts. We can always count on the Auxiliary members for their support of all TAC events.”
The TAC ended its 2013-2014 calendar season Monday night with the Southeast Alabama Community Band Concert and awards program at the Claudia Crosby Theater and is looking now toward finalizing the 2014-15 events calendar.
“This donation from the Auxiliary will be used as we prepare for our Patrons Drive that is coming up shortly,” Walker said. “The Auxiliary is instrumental in our Patrons Drive and in the carrying out of our program calendar and in our fund-raising efforts.”
Saunders said the Auxiliary’s very successful “Troy Sampler” fund-raising project began with an art exhibit at the Colley Senior Complex titled “Scenes of Troy.”
“A Troy Sampler” is a collection of artwork by local artists that features Troy landmark structures. The Auxiliary also spearheaded the note cards project. The cards feature the artwork of deceased Pike County artists.
Saunders said projects such as these raise funds for the TAC, recognize local talent and promote the visual arts in Troy.
The TAC Auxiliary’s next big event will be the reception for artist Mary Ann Casey’s “Best of Show” exhibit at the Johnson Center for the Arts. Casey was the winner of the 2013 TroyFest “Best of Show” award.
“The winner of that annual award is recognized with an exhibition at the Johnson Center in May of the following year,” Walker said. “The TAC Auxiliary hosts the reception each year. This year, the reception for Mary Ann Casey will be from 2 until 4 p.m. May 18 at the Johnson Center for the Arts. It’s a fantastic show and we invite everyone to join us in celebrating the arts in Pike County.”
