The Troy Arts Council Auxiliary will host a reception for the 2013 TroyFest “Best of Show” artist Mary Ann Casey from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Center for the Arts, 300 East Walnut Street in Troy. The public is invited.
The exhibition is titled “Spaces, Places and People” and features 48 pieces by the Troy artist that include paintings, sculptures and multi-media pieces.
Wiley White, Johnson Center development coordinator, said the TroyFest “Best of Show” is an annual one-artist show that features the artwork of the recipient of the “Best of Show” award at TroyFest the previous year.
“The TroyFest ‘Best of Show’ exhibit is held throughout the month of May,” White said. “The artist is honored with a reception that provides the public with an opportunity to meet the artist and view his or her artwork in a gallery setting. We are excited that a local artist, Mary Ann Casey, is the featured ‘Best of Show’ artist.”
White said Casey’s exhibit is a unique collection of paintings and sculptures.
“Mary Ann chose the lower level gallery and it is perfect for her exhibit,” White said. “The exhibit includes artwork of different sizes, from small boxes to large, free-standing pieces. Much of the exhibit is Mary Ann’s new work, which is a reflection of her personality. Mary Ann scoots around from one thing to another and that’s what her exhibit is like – spaces to places to people. She has so much to say through her art. She can’t hold it in.”
Ruth Walker, president of the Troy Arts Council, said Casey’s exhibit is a series of different things and her art is captivating.
“The Troy Arts Council is involved with TroyFest in that each year we sponsor a scholarship for a graduating senior who plans to continue art classes in college and our auxiliary hosts the “Best of Show” artist’s reception,” Walker said. “We congratulate Mary Ann Casey on this award and on an outstanding exhibit.”
The reception honoring Casey Sunday afternoon is open to the public and everyone is invited.
The “Spaces, Places and People” exhibit will run through May 31.
The Johnson Center is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and until 3 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
