Seventy students graduated from Pike County High School in a ceremony held at Troy University’s Sartain Hall Thursday evening.
The graduation was moved to the university because of inclement weather. Principal Willie Wright said the new venue was appropriate for a group as special as the class of 2014.
“These kids deserve the best,” he said. “This is a great class and we look forward to them going out and doing great things in life.”
The class presented Wright with a framed class picture so that he would “remember us as the best class ever to graduate Pike County High School,” said Justin Davis.
In addition to diplomas, 16 members of the class received an associate degree in applied science. The degrees were the result of their work completed in the Academy of Business and Finance.
Matthew Hughes of Enterprise State Community College awarded the degrees.
“I’m very proud to say the top 10 students in this graduating class are also students at Enterprise,” he said.
Valedictorian Terrance Cochran focused on his and his fellow graduates’ futures. He compared life to a bridge.
“Some bridges are longer and others have more bumps and curves, but all good bridges are built the same,” he said.
All bridges have a stable foundation, high resilience and lead to a destination, Cochran said.
Salutatorian Joseph Sanders also had his eye on the future. “God has amazing plans for each and every one of us graduates,” he said. “And the future He has planned is very bright. God bless the class of 2014.”
