Perfectly Imperfect’s Shaunna West will be celebrating the release of her new book “The $50 Home Makeover: 75 Easy Projects to Transform Your Current Space into your Dream Space” this Saturday night at her shop on the Square in Downtown Troy.
West is the creator of the Perfectly Imperfect blog and owner of the shop downtown. The book took four months to write, with West writing and photographing all of her contributions to the book.
“Adams Media contacted me about a specific book they had in mind,” West said. “We put together five to six projects a week for the book. It was challenging but a lot of fun.”
All projects in the book cost $50 dollars or less to make, and the estimated time, difficulty, and cost is outlined for each.
“There are plenty of furniture, painting, and semi-handmade crafts, as well as small builds such as drill-only pieces of furniture that are simple and easy,” West said.
West said all the projects are meant for the average, normal person. She said it’s easy to feel intimidated, but wants people to not shy away from working on their home.
West started the blog in 2009 on Christmas day, because she wanted to write and create. She said online traffic started to pick up when she documented an attic addition to her home and the furniture she painted for the project.
The Perfectly Imperfect shop downtown offers customers ‘farmhouse elegance’ style housewares and furniture as well as much more.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the book launch party, and West will be doing a book-signing. There will be southern food and entertainment. The first 50 people to come will receive a swag bag full of items provided by sponsors such as Frog Tape, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Mustard Seed Milk Paint and Purdy.
“So much of our business is online, so the purpose of the book launch is to entertain readers locally and use the event as a marketing tool online,” West said. “It’s a good excuse to have a party and celebrate it.”
The book launch party will be on Saturday, July 12 from 5 to 8 p.m.
