Troy City Council approves Public Works resolutions

The Troy City Council approved two resolutions Tuesday involving the Public Works department.
The first resolution was an amendment to adjust the Environmental Services budget to include $150,000 to fund various projects to improve infrastructure on Orion Street, Williams Street, Spradley Drive, Hill Street, Elm Street, Camellia Drive, Elm Street, and Corman Avenue. The construction projects include drainage improvements, storm drain repairs, installing and replacing storm water equipment and related actions.
A bid award of $33,225.50 was approved to replace a non-working 1997 utility truck in the Public Works department with a 2015 Chevrolet truck with a utility body and lift gate.
“That’s good that the truck’s wore out—show’s you’ve been using it,” Councilman Charlie Dunn said to Vaughn Daniels, Troy Public Works director.
Both resolutions were approved unanimously.
The council went through a first-read of an ordinance that would re-zone 5.5 acres of land located on Highway 29 South from residential R1 to commercial C2. On June 26, the Troy City Planning Commission recommended the request to the council. The properties are owned by Green Land Company, Inc. and TFI LLC and are located from 575 to 608 US Highway 29 South.
Council President John Witherington said that the residential zoning of the property was discovered through an oversight due to a zoning glitch. “We’d like to clean that property owner’s mind and have that issue settled and soothed,” Witherington said.
The council will vote on the approval and adoption of the ordinance at its regularly scheduled meeting Aug. 12th at 5 p.m.
In other business, the council awarded the District 5 Yard of the Month to Willie C. McKinnon of 100 Lotus Lane. Council members also reminded Troy residents that District 2 clean-up is this month and District 3 clean-up starts in August.
