The Town of Goshen Water Department posted losses for the second straight month, according to the Goshen Town Council, which met on Thursday.

Goshen lost around $900 on its water system last month, this coming after the previous month saw the town lose $900 on repairs and license renewals.

The losses are unlikely to be made up in the near future, as the town will be paying for even more repairs.

A broken gland valve bolt in the town’s pump will cost $870 to fix, while the installation of an additional water line in the town will cost around $3,100.

The new water line is being installed in an attempt to solve a problem that some Goshen residents were having with water quality.

Goshen Mayor Jack Waller said he expects the new water line to solve the problem.

“I didn’t want to do anything unless it would help,” Waller said. “But everyone I’ve talked to has said this will fix the problem.”

Waller was also pleased with the relatively low cost of the installation.

“I think it’s a pretty good price,” he said. “I was expecting it to be somewhere around $10,000.”

The council also discussed plans for the old town jail, which a Goshen resident expressed an interest in buying.

Waller said he felt the town should keep the jail, which once housed late country music singer Hank Williams.

“I don’t think we want to sell it, but we need to find some way to renovate it and have it moved,” Waller said.

Councilman Darren Jordan had a possible solution to the problem.

“We could get in touch with the Hank Williams museum and see if we could get it added to a Hank Williams trail,” Jordan said.

The council also asked councilman Carter Sanders to obtain plans and estimates for a new kitchen for the town’s annex building and to present those plans at the next council meeting on July 9.
