The Pike County Chamber of Commerce Cultural Arts Committee met Monday afternoon to finalize the information for the cultural arts brochure for the county.

Kathy Sauer, Chamber president, said the cultural arts committee was formed to foster the development of the cultural arts, increase exposure to the arts and gain more public participation in the cultural arts.

“The cultural arts committee was organized a little less than a year ago,” Sauer said. “The first goal of the committee was to facilitate communication and collaboration among the cultural arts organizations in the county.”

The participating organizations include the Troy Arts Council, the Troy-Pike Cultural Arts Center, the Troy Tourism Department, TroyFest, the Pioneer Museum of Alabama, Troy University Music Department, Troy Music Study Club, the Brundidge Historical Society, Studio 116 and the Brundidge Business Association.

“If we have overlooked any organizations that sponsor on-going cultural arts events and activities that are open to the public, we certainly want them to have an opportunity to be a part of this project,” Sauer said.

“There is still time to participate so we encourage these organizations to call the Chamber office at 334-566-2294.”

The committee is now looking forward to its first project, which is the cultural arts brochure.

“The brochure is the collaborative effort of cultural arts organizations and has been designed to help people throughout the county and beyond to know what is available and when the events are scheduled,” Sauer said.

“The brochure will make it easier to reach more people with information about cultural arts events and activities in Pike County and will include pictures of many of the events that we have in Pike County.

“The brochure will also include contact information for each organization including website addresses which will lead to whatever is scheduled for that time period.”

To help fund the brochure project, the cultural arts committee will make application for a matching grant with the Alabama Tourism Department.

“Each of the organizations is providing funding. Hopes are to be awarded a grant that will allow us to print a larger number of the brochures,” Sauer said.

“Each organization will be given brochures for their own use. The other brochures will be placed in local and state hospitality areas, including the welcome stations. Of course, the brochures will be available for pickup at the Chamber office and possibly at municipal offices around the county.”

The Chamber is actively marketing the cultural arts events and activities for the remaining months of 2014 and 2015 on is website, www.pikecoc.com and in Alabama’s Tourism and Travel publication.

“Currently, there are two locations where people can go to find cultural arts events in Pike County,” Sauer said.

“When the brochures are available, that will be another avenue to promote the cultural arts in Pike County.”
