Local schools will be sharing the message of drug awareness and prevention next week as they join in the annual Red Ribbon Week activities.

“The narcotics and K-9 unit is going to different schools to do a demonstration of how it works and how it locates drugs,” said Lt. Bryan Weed, Troy police department.

In Pike Elementary School, Monday, Oct. 27 will be Put a Cap/Hat on Drug Abuse Day. Students will wear their favorite cap or hat to stop the abusive use of drugs. Tuesday is Camouflage and Shade out Drugs Day. Students will wear their favorite camouflage attire or shades. On Wednesday, the school celebrates Red out Day with students wearing red ribbons and red clothing.

Thursday, students will Dress For Success to show who they want to be in life. Friday is Scare away Drugs Day with students from kindergarten through second grades wearing Halloween costumes to scare away the illegal drug use. Third to sixth-graders will wear their favorite team’s jersey or T-shirt to “Team Up” against drug abuse.

Pike Elementary School will also hold drug prevention spotlights with guest speakers including Brundidge Mayor Jimmy Ramage, city council member and coaches.

Charles Henderson Middle School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week on Monday with students wearing mismatched clothes for the Drugs are Wacky and Tacky theme. Tuesday for My Future is Bright day, students will wear college shirts and uniform bottoms. Wednesday is Wear Red Day. Students will wear pink shirts on Tickled Pink about Being Drug Free Thursday. For Friday, the theme is Team up against Drugs with students wearing their favorite team shirts.

Banks Elementary is holding Team Up Against Drugs day on Monday with students wearing their favorite team colors. Tuesday is Cap out Drugs Day where students will wear their favorite cap or hat. On Wednesday, students will wear jeans and red shirts to celebrate I’m a Jean-IUS. I’m Drug-free Day. Students will also receive red ribbons to wear. Students will wear red, white and blue clothing Thursday for Voting for My Future to Be Drug-free Day. Friday theme is Drugs Are Scary, students will wear their Halloween costumes in accordant with the dress code.

Monday at Troy Elementary is Pledge to be Drug-free Day. Students will wear red ribbons and participate in pledge. Tuesday is Stay Sharp, Don’t Start – You’d be CRAZY to do drugs day. Students will be given Red Ribbon Week pencils and they may wear mismatched socks. Students will wear red shirts with uniform bottoms on Wear Read Day Wednesday. Thursday is TES is Teaming Up Against Drugs day with students wearing their favorite team shirts. Friday, the school celebrates Trojan Spirit Day – TRUE TROJANS Don’t Do Drugs. Students will wear spirit shirts.

At Goshen Elementary, Monday is Tackling Drugs- Changing lives Day. Students will wear favorite team color. Students will wear jeans and red shirts for Tuesday I’m a Jean-IUS…I’m drug-free day. Wednesday is I pledge to be bully and drug free day. Tickled pink about being drug-free day will be on Thursday with students wearing pink clothing. Friday is Black-out drug day at Goshen Elementary.

Pike Liberal Arts School’s Red Ribbon Week was a weak earlier due to homecoming festivities. Monday, Oct. 20 was I’m too Bright for Drugs Day with students wearing neon or bright colored clothing. Students wore red on Tuesday with provided red ribbons. Wednesday was Sock it to Drugs Day with students wearing red or mismatched socks. PLAS celebrated Happy, Happy, Happy to be Drug-free Day with camouflage clothing. Friday was Team Up Against Drugs Day. Students wore school spirit shirt.

The City of Troy held an essay competition for eighth-grade students to raise awareness of drug use and drug problems in Troy community. This year’s winner was Jackson Giles from CHMS. The other finalists included Caroline Bish and Kaylee Ferraro from PLAS, Veronica Copper and Madi Johnson from CHMS.
