Troy University head baseball coach Bobby Pierce announced Thursday that ten players have signed scholarships and will join the Trojans next fall.
The batch of recruits includes seven high school seniors and three junior college transfers.
Pierce, who is entering his final season as head coach for the Troy baseball program, said Thursday that head coach in waiting — current Troy assistant coach Mark Smartt — will be responsible for leading the program and working with the new group of players heading into next fall.
“The decision by our administration to announce that Coach Smartt will take over next year played a significant role in securing this year’s impressive class,” Pierce said in a press release. “Several of them had committed prior to the announcement and I’m proud to say each of them was excited and maintained their commitment to our program and university.”
The class consists of three pitchers and seven position players.
Highlighting the list of recruits is Charles Henderson High School senior catcher Chase Smartt, son of Mark Smartt.
