Troy University baseball will adjust their opening weekend schedule to accommodate hosting another team Feb. 13-15, the school announced Tuesday.
The Trojans, who were originally scheduled to host Northwestern State in a four-game series to begin Feb. 13, will now also welcome Eastern Illinois that same weekend for a three-team round robin series at Riddle-Pace field.
“We are happy to add a third team to the opening weekend in 2015,” Troy head coach Bobby Pierce said. “Playing Northwestern State and Eastern Illinois will present a great challenge to open the season and help prepare our team for the season ahead. I hope our fans will enjoy the new format and take advantage of having two games each day to open the season.”
With the revised opening weekend schedule, the Trojans will play Friday at 6 p.m. against Northwestern State, with Eastern Illinois and NSU kicking off the day’s action with a 1 p.m. game.
The Trojans will play a doubleheader on Saturday, taking on Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. before facing Northwestern State at 4:30 p.m.
Sunday’s matches will feature Eastern Illinois and Northwestern State at 10 a.m., followed by Troy and EIU at 2 p.m.
Troy’s opening night ceremony will take place before Friday’s slate of games.
Northwestern State is a member of the Southland Conference and finished 33-26 last season. Eastern Illinois, out of the Ohio Valley Conference, ended its 2014 season 22-33, which included a 5-1 win over then-No.14 ranked UL Lafayette to open the season.
