Take one quick look at teams’ rosters around the NFL and a common theme will start to appear.
From All-Pros to key role players, the league is littered with Troy University talent.
And the prestige doesn’t end there. Troy football has seen some of the most talented college players in the nation throughout Larry Blakeney’s 24-year run as head football coach.
In honor of Blakeney’s final game Saturday, a panel of voters selected the best of the best during his tenure to comprise the All-Blakeney Team.
All-Pro defensive lineman Marcus Ware and Super Bowl-winning kicker Lawrence Tynes were the only unanimous selections to the team.
And in keeping with current NFL talent, wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan, defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora and defensive back and return specialist Leodis McKelvin were some of the highest vote getters, receiving 95 percent of the possible votes.
Other notable selections include seventh-round NFL draft pick and former Troy quarterback Levi Brown, current Falcons linebacker and fifth round draft pick Jonathan Massaquoi and current Carolina Panthers defensive end Mario Addison.
Senior offensive lineman Terrance Jones was the only current player selected to the All-Blakeney team.
The voting panel included members of the football head coach search advisory committee, current and former assistant coaches, Troy University and Athletic Department staff and members of the media.
