The Southside Baptist Church Brotherhood will host Outdoors with Friends, a hunting event for the disabled and disadvantaged Dec. 12-13.
This will be the third year the Brotherhood has hosted the guided hunting event.
“The mission of the annual hunt is to provide a time of fellowship and sharing God’s word with all who may be involved in preparing or participating in Outdoors with Friends,” said Greg Ricks, Brotherhood director Salem-Baptist Association/Southside Baptist Church.
“This is a hunting event for the disabled, handicapped, wounded warriors and fatherless children,” Ricks said. “These are guided hunts and they are completely supervised. We have close to 50 participants signed up and wanting to go.”
Ricks said, to accommodate all those who want to participate, the Brotherhood is in need of hunting clubs or landowners who would volunteer to allow hunting on their property.
The hunting event will begin on Friday with orientation and scheduling and pairing participants with their guides/landowners. Friday hunt departure time will be at 2 p.m.
The Friday night welcome meal will be begin at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the meal will be the Fellowship Service with a guest speaker.
The hunt will begin Saturday morning at a time agreed to by the hunters and their guides.
Hunters will check back in by 11 a.m. and be prepared to go back out at 2 p.m.
“The conclusion of the hunt will be at the convenience of the hunters following that last hunt,” Ricks said. “Hopefully, the hunt will conclude with great stories and testimonies for the hunters and everyone involved to take home,” Ricks said.
