Former Troy University baseball and Charles Henderson high school standout Logan Pierce has been added to the baseball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant, head coach Bobby Pierce, Logan’s father, announced Friday.

“We are very happy for C.J. and grateful for his three years of service to our program. We wish him the best and we know he will do great things at Ohio University,” Bobby Pierce said. “We are fortunate to have a former player in Logan that knows our program and my coaching style. For me, it’s a special opportunity to coach my last season and finish my career with my son in the same uniform, in the same dugout.”

Logan completed his college baseball career in 2013, finishing with a .317 batting average with 17 home runs and 153 RBIs over his three-year tenure.

He drew 125 walks in his career, tied with Jorge Soto for the Troy career record, and second in career doubles with 55.

As a senior, Logan batted .364 and reached base in 47-straight games. Pierce was named Louisville Slugger All-American and first team All-Sun Belt Conference as a third baseman. He was also a first team All-Sun Belt selection as a junior.

After graduating, Logan was selected in the 15th round of the MLB First Year Player Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He played one season for the Phillies’ Class-A team in Williamsport, Pa., where he batted .266 with five home runs and 29 RBIs. In 2014, Pierce played for the Frontier Greys of the Frontier League.

Logan replaces former volunteer coach C.J. Wamsley.
