India Blakely led the Charles Henderson girls with 21 points and Maori Davenport chipped in with 17 points as the Lady Trojans pulled away at the end of the game to defeat Eufaula 57-44 Wednesday night.
“They did a great job,” Charles Henderson head coach Dyneshia Jones said. “I wasn’t happy with the free throws, but in the end they (Charles Henderson) pulled it off.”
The Lady Trojans got off to a fast start, orchestrating a 9-0 run right out of the gates in the first quarter.
Davenport and Blakely led the charge and Tajianah Brundidge added the exclamation point to the run, sinking a 3-pointer to give Charles Henderson the early 9-0 run.
Eufaula, however, responded with a 9-0 run of their own in the first and second quarters to tie the game at 9-9.
The Lady Eagles’ defense took charge in the second quarter, forcing Charles Henderson to commit several turnovers while attempting to break Eufaula’s full-court press.
The Lady Trojans managed just 11 points in the second half. The Lady Eagles outscored Charles Henderson 13-11 en route to a 20-20 halftime lead.
But in the second half, the Lady Trojans came out playing focused, mistake-free basketball.
Davenport came on strong in the second half, scoring 14 of her 17 points in the final two quarters.
Blakely was 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the second half. In the fourth quarter, she hit three key free throws after Eufaula head coach Jonathan Deveridge was ejected from the game after being charged with two technical fouls.
After Blakely’s free throws, the Lady Trojans pulled away, leading by as many as 15 before the game’s end.
