The Charles Henderson football team can thank their Lady Trojans for exacting some postseason revenge on B.C. Rain.

Monday night, the Charles Henderson girl’s basketball team steamrolled the Raiders 66-37 in the first round of the AHSAA Class 5A regional tournament.

India Blakely and Maori Davenport led Charles Henderson in scoring with 22 points each in the game.

“I love it,” Charles Henderson head coach Dyneshia Jones said. “From what we saw tonight, I love (our momentum).”

Charles Henderson began the game rolling offensively.

The Lady Trojans quickly got out to a 10-0 lead behind dominant inside play from Davenport.

But B.C. Rain responded with a run of its own, outscoring the Lady Trojans 10-3 over the next few minutes to get within three points of the lead before ending the quarter down 15-10.

Charles Henderson opened up the second quarter on another hot spurt, this time a 12-2 run, jetting out to a 27-12 lead.

The Raiders made another run at the lead, but couldn’t keep up with the blazing pace of the Lady Trojans as Charles Henderson went into halftime up 32-20.

In the second half, the Lady Trojans stifled the Raiders in all aspects of the game.

B.C. Rain managed only five points in the third quarter, while Charles Henderson cruised to a 54-25 lead.

“(In the second half) I was just telling the team to keep their composure” Jones said. “B.C. Rain is very aggressive, and I just kept telling them (Charles Henderson) to take it to the hole and get to the line.”

And in the fourth quarter, the offense kept coming from the Lady Trojans who substituted out their starters midway through the fourth on their way to a more-than-comfortable 62-30 lead late in the game.

Davenport was dominant on both sides of the court, netting 10 blocks as well.

“That’s very nice,” Jones said of Davenport. “I have four more years after this to go with her.”

With the win Monday night, the Lady Trojans will advance to face the winner of Brewbaker Technical Magnet and Jackson.
