Troy University baseball will open up its 2015 season Friday with a four-game homestand against Northwestern State at Riddle-Pace Field.
The four-game series against the Demons will feature a 6 p.m. opener on Friday, a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and a Sunday finale which will also begin at 1 p.m.
Entering his final season as the head coach of Troy baseball, Bobby Pierce will look to lead his team to a rebound year after a 25-32 campaign in 2014.
Pierce is just 15 wins shy of of passing Chase Riddle on the school’s all-time wins list. He is also just five wins shy of breaking 700 career wins as an NCAA coach.
The Trojans will return Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Marc Skinner in 2015. The sophomore pitcher was 6-1 on the mound with a league-best 1.52 ERA one year ago and was a Preseason All-Sun Belt selection in January.
Joining Skinner is fellow Preseason All-Sun Belt designated hitter David Hall. The senior was an offensive force for the Trojans one year ago, batting a team-best .344 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs.
Corey Childress is set to make history for the Trojans Friday night, as he will be the first freshman in Troy history to take the mound as a starter in the season opener.
The Trojans have won 10 of their last 12 season openers including its last six at home.
This weekend will mark the first ever series between Troy and Northwestern State.
