The Troy women’s basketball team is on a hot streak again.

With their 68-63 win over UL Lafayette last weekend, the Trojans again find themselves in the midst of a winning streak, this time of the three-game variety.

Thursday night, Troy (15-9) will take its show on the road to Statesboro, Ga., to faceoff with Georgia Southern.

With a win, the Trojans wouldn’t just be the winners of four-straight games, but they’ll also be bolstering their case for a top seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and a place in the almighty NCAA Tournament.

The Trojans, who are tied for third place in the conference, have already tied the program record with 10 Sun Belt wins and is on the brink of breaking the school record for most conference wins ever.

On the road this season, Troy is 6-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play. But the Trojans will meet a reeling Georgia Southern team that is winless on the year at home in conference play.

Troy has always been known for its blistering offense, which is ranked first in the conference, but this past weekend against UL Lafayette, the Trojans held the Cajuns to just 30 percent shooting on the night including just 19 percent in the first half.

The Trojans are still led in scoring by junior Ashley Beverly-Kelley who scored 20 points against UL Lafayette, her fifth 20-point game in the last six.

Beverly-Kelley also leads Troy in assists with 2.9 a game and steals with 2.4 a game.

Senior Ronita Garrett continued her dominance in the paint against the Cajuns, tying her Troy Division I era record with 19 rebounds against UL Lafayette and now has 16 double-doubles on the season, the most in the Sun Belt and eighth in the NCAA.

Georgia Southern (4-19, 1-13) is on a streak of its own, a 10-game losing streak.

The Eagles most recently fell to Sun Belt leader UALR 60-43 last Saturday. Georgia Southern has just won conference victory this season, a victory over South Alabama in Mobile in January.

With a win Thursday, Troy will carry momentum on its collision course with UALR Saturday after noon in a battle for Sun Belt supremacy.

The Trojans will look to avenge an 82-56 loss to UALR in January.
