Charles Henderson High rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the first game of a double-header 12-7 against Class 7A rival Enterprise Tuesday night at Hogan’s Hole in Troy, and rolled to a 9-2 win in the second game.

Senior right-handed pitcher Cole Wilson battled for the win in going the distance in the opener, and senior catcher Chase Smartt was 4-for-4 at the plate.

Hunter Reeves pitched the complete seven innings as the 9-2 victory improved the Trojan’s record to 11-0 on the season.

The  Trojans trailed 7-4 entering the bottom of the sixth, but the first six CHHS batters reached base before Enterprise could record an out. Nick Lewis had two doubles in the inning as CHHS sent 11 batters to the plate. Lewis and Hunter Reeves each had two RBI during the big inning.

Enterprise jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, CHHS tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the second, but the Wildcats added one in the third, three in the fifth and one if the sixth for the 7-4 lead.

The Trojans managed single runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings before the sixth-inning comeback.

While Smartt was 4-for-4 with two doubles, Lewis, DeAndre Pitts and Reeves each had two hits for CHHS.

Wilson battled the full seven innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking two.

“I was really proud as I told our guys we had not faced adversity like this, and I wanted to see how they responded, and they responded with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth,” CHHS

Head Coach Derek Irons said following the first game. “I was incredibly proud, as when things did not go our way early, just compete, compete, compete, and then blew it open late.

“Cole Wilson was fantastic. Just fantastic. They score two runs in the first and if we catch a fly ball in the first they don’t score any, and in the fifth inning they scored three runs on one hit. He just pitched fantastic. He’s a senior, at home against a big rival, and he did everything we could have asked him to do. Really proud of his effort.”

In the second game Lewis and Smartt each had two hits while Fox, Ingram, Chase Hartley, Pitts and Wilson had one hit each Reeves worked seven innings, allowing only two runs on eight hits, while striking out three.

With the sweep CHHS improved to 11-0 on the season, with 10 of those wins coming against 6A or 7A opponents, and the other coming against a 5A team.

The Trojans host a strong baseball program in Bibb County this Friday for a 4:30 p.m. double-header.
