Goshen softball had its weekend come to an abrupt end Saturday, falling to Thorsby 7-2 in the first round of the Troy Classic.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early in the game, as Thorsby jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first after an RBI single and a sacrifice fly drove in the first two base runners of the game.
Goshen did its best to answer in the bottom of the first when Casey Allen drove in a run on an RBI double that scored Carmen Kelly.
But Thorsby’s defense stood tall after the hit, retiring the next two Goshen batters to hold on to its 2-1 lead.
In the top of the second, Thorsby continued to pour on the offense against Goshen starting pitcher Lizzy Galloway.
After three-straight batters reached base, Thorsby drove in two runs with a two-RBI double to give the Rebels a 4-1 lead.
After another Thorsby runner scored on an error, the Rebels drove in two more runs on a two-RBI double before taking a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the second.
For the next three innings, Goshen did its best to rally.
The Lady Eagles didn’t have problems making contact at the plate, but could not manage to manufacture any runs.
Goshen’s final run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kati Thomas hit an RBI double to score Galloway, but the Lady Eagles couldn’t complete the comeback.
“We just didn’t have a very good day,” Goshen head coach Amy Warrick said. “We just made a lot of errors and didn’t play our kind of softball.”
