Pike softball tops Fort Dale in double header

The Pike Liberal Arts softball team dominated Fort Dale, outscoring the Lady Eagles a combined 34-4 in two games Tuesday to sweep the double header in Troy.
The Lady Patriots, who have now won 13 of their last 14 games, beat Fort Dale 14-2 in the first game and 20-0 in the second game of the night.
In the first game of the day, Pike trailed for the only time all night after a first inning that saw Fort Dale take a quick 2-0 lead.
But in the bottom of the first, Pike rallied, scoring its first run on a past ball that brought home Kayla Benton.
One batter later, Sam Yarbrough hit an RBI double to score Amberlyn Baker to tie the game, and two batters later, Yarbrough stole home to give the Lady Patriots their first and final lead of the game at 3-2.
In the game, Danielle Brown led Pike with four RBIs.
Rushing earned the win from the circle, allowing two earned runs on three hits in two innings pitched.
In the nightcap, the game was never in doubt for Pike.
The Lady Patriots opened up strong in the game, scoring nine runs in the first and second innings.
Yarbrough led the Patriots with five RBIs on the night, going 3-of-3 from the plate with three triples and a double.
Rushing earned the win from the pitching circle again in the second game, striking out two batters in one inning of pitching.
Kelly Grant got the save for Pike.
Rushing and Grant combined to collectively no-hit Fort Dale.
With the win, Pike advances to 16-5 overall.
