The Charles Henderson baseball teams finds themselves in a new classification this season, but in a familiar position in the initial Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings.
The Trojans are the top ranked team in 5A, the same position they occupied for the past two season in 4A.
CHHS head coach Derek Irons is pleased to see his team recognized by the ASWA, but knows there is still much work to be done. “Any time our program receives positive recognition on a state-wide scale it’s great for our players and our school” he said. “But at the same time our guys understand that there is still a long season in front of us and we need to continue to improve every day.”
The CHHS Trojans are currently 93-13 with two state titles since the beginning of the 2013 season, and this week’s poll marked 12 consecutive polls that have featured CHHS as the No. 1 team. It also marks the 51st consecutive ASWA poll that has ranked the Trojans in the top ten.
The Trojans are currently undefeated with a 16-0 record on the season. They travel to Montgomery today to participate in the FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Tournament against Brewbaker Tech and Geneva. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 pm.
