Two Troy University students have been arrested in connection with a cell phone video of what officials said appears to be a gang rape that took place at Panama City Beach, Fla., during spring break.

Officials said Delonte Maristee, 22, of Bainbridge, Ga., and Ryan Austin Calhoun, 23, of Mobile, were arrested in Troy on Friday and transported back to the Bay County Sheriff’s Department in Florida, where they will face charges of a sexual battery by multiple perpetrators.

Herbert Reeves, dean of students at Troy, confirmed on Friday that both men were students at Troy and Martistee was a member of the Trojan track team. “They were both temporarily suspended pending the outcome of a formal hearing,” Reeves said. “They would have to appear before the student disciplinary committee before they would be allowed to return to any classes because we consider this a safety issue.”

The Bay County Sheriff’s Department on Friday held a press conference and reported the video showed “an apparent gang rape that occurred on Panama City Beach during Spring Break.”

The video was received from the Troy Police Department on April 2, when it was discovered during the course of another investigation.

“As soon as we found it, we contacted the Bay County Sheriff’s Department because it appeared to have occurred during spring break,” said Troy Police Chief Jimmy Ennis. “I’m proud of the detectives from the Troy Police Department for being diligent in recognizing this and turning it over to the proper agency.”

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office release said it was able to establish the incident took place between March 10, 2015 and March 12, 2015 behind Spinnaker on Thomas Drive.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation was ongoing and additional arrests were expected.

“This is a horrible crime committed against an innocent person and the Troy Police Department is proud that we could assist the Bay County Sheriff’s Department in this case,” Ennis said.
