The Troy Junior Women’s League has continued its Books for Babies program with book donations to the Troy Public Library’s Children Library.

Teresa Colvin, children’s librarian, said the Troy Junior Women’s League has a long established tradition of donating books to the library in honor of babies born to League members during the previous year.

“The Troy Junior Women’s League’s Books for Babies program supports literacy,” Colvin said. “Learning begins at birth so it’s important to spend time reading to babies. The Books for Babies program turns others into the importance of reading and toward the library.

“It’s also a way continue to recognize and honor the children when they get older. Each book donated is labeled with the child’s name and it’s exciting for the children to come to the library and see their name in a book.”

Colvin said the books are selected by the moms from a list of books that have good reviews.

“Each mom selects a book that relates in some way to her baby,” she said. “The books are great addition to our children’s library. Many other children will have the joy of reading the donated books so the Books for Babies program is far reaching.

“We greatly appreciate the Troy Junior Women’s League’s acknowledgement of the importance of reading in the lives of young children and their support of the Troy Public Library.

Five babies were honored with book donations for 2014.

Brody Ray Golden, who was born in November, is the son of Brannon and Emilee Golden. The book his mom chose is “How to Hug” by Maryann MacDonald.

“Brody likes to play with his brother, Bradunn, watch Mickey Mouse, take baths, play with his toys, cuddle and swing,” his mom said.

Paisley Grace Raiti, a November baby, is the daughter of Matt and Amanda Raiti. She was honored with the book, “Disney Minnie: Hugs for Friends” by Gina Gold.

Amada Raiti said her daughter enjoys Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, bath time and playing with her toys. She likes to have her picture taken.

Adleigh Caroline Ash has a September birthday. Her parents are Bubba and Courtney Ash and she has a sister Preslie.

Her mom chose the book, “Telephone” by Mac Barnett for her. Adleigh Caroline’s favorite things to do are swinging on the porch with her mom and dad and playing dress-up. She likes to “just” play and go to church.

Betty Gracelynn Royal was born in February to D.J. and Brittany Royal. “Betty Bunny Love Easter” by Michael B. Kaplan was the book her mom chose for her. Betty Gracelynn has a brother, Trip, who is her favorite playmate. She also likes to play with Rosie, go strolling and play with her toys. Most of all, she likes cuddling.

Chloe Elizabeth Jones was born in February. Her parents are Tommy and Betsy Jones. She likes playing with her siblings, Mary Thomas, Zack and Gabriel, and her best friend Alice. She likes being outside in the sunshine and going to church. Before she goes to bed each night, she likes to have a story read to her.

Chloe’s mom honored her with the book, “Aqualicious” by Victoria Kann.

“We are excited to donate these five books to the Troy Public Library in honor of the babies that were born to members of Troy Junior Women’s League in 2014,” said Whitney Conrad, League chair. “We have donated almost 100 books to the library over the years.”
