Lakisha Louissaint has written a novella, the first in a trilogy, speaking to and about those women who are desperately seeking a spouse.

Louissaint’s novella, “A Broken Marriage with Hidden Secrets,” is the story of a young Christian woman who is tired of being single and on the verge of giving up on love altogether, when she suddenly finds who she thinks to be the perfect man. Unfortunately, they both take secrets to the altar, resulting in a test to their faith.

“Women are single and want to be married, but they don’t understand that after the ‘I Dos’ comes work,” Louissaint said. “My inspiration was watching marriages in how they have their breakdowns, but how even when they have their breakdowns there is still beauty behind it.”

Her self-published book will be debuted at the Courtyard Marriot, but it will be a debut like no other, the Troy resident said. She will dress like a bride, her husband will dress like a groom and they will exchange the vows that are exchanged between the characters in her book.

“I’m going to let them sit inside the book as we exchange Ginelle and Joshua’s vows,” Louissaint said. “I’ve never seen anyone allow them to step inside the book literally.”

Louissaint used her personal experiences to develop the book, allowing the readers to gain insight from her past.

“I was once single,” Louissaint said. “I knew what it felt like to wait and almost lose hope like I would never find that love. Then all of a sudden it’s right there.”

Through sharing her testimony and experiences with people and on mission trips to Puerto Rico, Louissaint discovered that it is beneficial to other women to hear similar stories to their own, giving her inspiration to write her book.

“Women go through so many different things,” Louissaint said. “A lot of times they don’t understand they can make it through until they hear someone who has been through what they’ve been through.”

This is not Louissaint’s first time to be published. Her first self-published book, “Tears of Silence,” tells her story of how her mother’s death and her experiences of being molested as a child.

“Although we feel like our blessings are denied, they are not,” Louissaint said. “God delays things for a reason. They may be denied. So I share that if you have the power of faith, regardless of what happens to you … if you focus and keep your eyes on God and believe that he can take anything that anyone says that is garbage and trash, He can always take it and make something beautiful out of it.”

“Tears of Silence” is being sold in the Troy University bookstore.

“I grew in that dark place,” she said. “Even a seed has to be buried in the ground where this a dark place, but once that seed begins to take root it grows into something beautiful. It comes out of the dark.

“That’s why all of my books are faith-based,” she continued. “I don’t want to leave out what God can do.”

“A Broken Marriage with Hidden Secrets” will be debuted at the Courtyard Marriot on July 18 at 3 p.m.
