A Troy man was struck and killed by a motor vehicle Sunday evening.
Thomas Dean Wheeler, 56, of Troy, died Sunday at approximately 8:54 p.m. after being stuck by a vehicle in the 800 block of North Three Notch Street in the area of Sunoco.
“We were dispatched to the 800 block of North Three Notch Street in reference to a traffic accident involving a pedestrian,” said Lt. Bryan Weed of the Troy Police Departments. “Officers arrived on scene to find a male subject in the roadway of North Three Notch Street in the area of Sunoco.”
Weed said the man was later identified as Wheeler.
“He was pronounced dead on the scene by Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams, who responded to the accident,” Weed said.
Weed said officers are still investigating, and it is currently unclear as to how Wheeler was struck by the vehicle.
“On preliminary investigations, it is being said Mr. Wheeler walked into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle,” Weed said.
Weed said the case likely would be presented to the grand jury.
“If there was a charge that would come out of it, it could be vehicular manslaughter, but as of this time there have been no charges filed,” Weed said. “Until further investigations are completed and analysis are in, we cannot be sure.”
The name of the driver has not been released as the case is still under investigation by Troy Police Department.
