The Alabama Department of Transportation and Mid-South Paving, Inc. will be resurfacing an area of Alabama Highway 10 in Brundidge beginning next week.

Andy Smith, project superintendent with Mid-South said that the project will consist of a machine covering a majority of the roadway in order to resurface it.

The construction will be approximately a mile and a half long. It will begin at U.S. Highway 231 near Hardee’s and continue down Alabama Highway 10, also known as S.A. Graham Boulevard, traveling toward Barbour County and ending around the Brundidge city limits.

“There are several bad areas in the roadway,” Smith said. “There is some concrete under certain areas that causes the pavement to deteriorate faster than it should.”

While the road will not be completely blocked, traffic will be restricted to one-way access.

“If you have to go down that street, you will need to come through Downtown Brundidge and come down that way,” Smith said. “Traffic will probably be allowed to flow from 231, but it will probably blocked through Downtown Brundidge to 231.”

Smith expects the project to begin either the end of next week or the following Monday. The start date depends on other ongoing projects with ALDOT and Mid-South and the weather.

The project is expected to be completed within 30 working days; however Smith said he thinks it will be finished within a week and a half.

During this time, motorists are advised to avoid the scene of construction.

“If they will find an alternate route for a week and a half, it will help us out and help them out,” Smith said. “If they don’t have to go through there, drivers are advised to go around. Even if it is a little out of the way, it will still be quicker for them to go around.”

Brantley Kirk, public information specialist with ALDOT, said the most important thing for drivers to be cautious when around the construction scene.

“The biggest thing is that motorists are to take caution with driving and be aware of equipment.”
