The Goshen Eagles come into Friday night’s matchup against New Brockton hungry not only for their first win of the season, but for scoring their first points of 2015.

After losing 25-0 a week ago to Luverne, the Eagles are motivated.

“Our spirits have been up. We had a good hard working practice on Monday,” said Eagle head coach Bart Snyder. “I thought Tuesday was kind of sluggish, which with the work we put on them on Monday it was kind of expected. We have gotten better today (Wednesday). We are going to keep moving and keep working.”

Although the Eagles were outscored a week ago, Snyder saw a lot of improvement from his team.

“Our spirit was up. We played three real good quarters then got down in their red zone and couldn’t get the ball out,” Snyder said. “We have to be consistent, we had young guys make mistakes. We are working on fixing those things. Everybody is getting better.”

This week the Eagles need to limit turnovers and penalties.

They also have to improve offensively.

“It’s just going to take some time. We need to score one time and get some confidence. We are close in a lot of places,” Snyder said. “We are young. We have a senior offensive line and a senior quarterback, but everyone else is young. For a lot of those guys it’s the first time they are seeing play on both sides of the ball. … This week could be a big one for us.”

New Brockton enters week three without letting up a single point to both Calhoun and Pleasant Home while racking up a total of 103 points.

The Eagles did defeat New Brockton on the road a year ago 17-14.

“They are 2-0 and had a good spring game in Troy and a good fall jamboree. They have played two big games and they have a lot of confidence coming in here, Snyder said. “They feel like they owe us from last year when we went into their place and beat them. We just have to play fundamental and mistake free football.”

A big game for the Eagles against the Gamecocks could provide a lift before they continue the meat of the region schedule. The Eagles could also use a life in the region standings as well after beginning the year 0-2.

The Eagles and Gamecocks will kick off Friday night at 7 p.m.
