Alex Hanson died peacefully at his home Friday evening, September 11, 2015, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 14, 2015 at 10:00 am from the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with Reverend Gerald Maddox and Reverend Danny Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hills Memorial Park with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

A life-long resident of Pike County, Alabama, he was born August 30, 1928 to the late Alex Hanson, Sr. and Agnes Freeman Hanson. He attended the Troy City School System and graduated from Charles Henderson High School. A well-rounded athlete, he played basketball, golf and baseball. He even played on a Farm Team after high school, but was never drafted to the Majors. A Veteran of the Korean War, he served his Country as a member of the United States Army from 1950- 1952.

He married the former Nell Dansby from Tennille, Alabama in 1950. The two recently celebrated 65 years of marriage on September 8, 2015. After returning from his tour in the Army, they settled in their home on Second Avenue, where they have lived since 1958.

Alex worked for the State of Alabama Highway Department for 41 years as a Civil Engineer. After his retirement, one could often find him working in his yard, tinkering in his “little house”, or playing golf at the Troy Country Club.

A founding member of Park Memorial Methodist Church from the inception of the church when it was located on Park Street, until he could no longer attend several years ago. He counted many of his life long friends from his church family.

Leaving behind his loving, care-giving wife, Nell, two children, Debbie Hanson (Birmingham) and Danny Hanson (Dothan) and his beloved granddaughter Mollie Hanson (Samford University), he also leaves behind many friends and family members who will miss his infectious laugh, huge smile and big heart.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Todd Pearlstein and his staff for many years of service as his primary care physician and Alacare Home Health, as well as, Alacare Hospice for their wonderful staff and the attentive care they have shown not only to him, but also to the family over the last several months.
