The City of Troy and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce’s Downtown Committee will hold the first Watch Party of the season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. A screen will be set up in The Square in Downtown Troy, allowing the community to watch as the Troy University Trojans battle the Wisconsin Badgers.
“It will be fun,” said Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy. “I expect there to be a crowd of all different kinds and ages of people. I think it will be a nice mix.”
In addition to the big screen with the Troy game broadcast, an additional flat screen will be provided so that the community can keep up with other football scores, as well.
“People can check scores and keep up with other ballgames,” Windham said.
Before and after the game, Windham encourages the community to take advantage of the specials at the restaurants and local merchants.
“We encourage everybody to shop and around and get some food and drinks,” Windham said. “Our downtown businesses will be running deals and specials.”
To create the complete football experience, those coming to the Watch Party will be able to enjoy tailgating games such as corn hole, ladder ball and yard bowling.
Tables and chairs will be provided; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own seating.
“We will have tables and chairs, but we are limited on what we can provide,” Windham said. “We encourage people to bring chairs, blankets and whatever they need to be comfortable while watching the game.”
The Trojans kick off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“It’s about watching the Trojans and just to do something a little different,” Windham said. “That’s what it’s all about – adding new events and new life to Downtown Troy, things we haven’t done before.”
