The Troy University Police Department released an SOS safety alert Friday, informing the students of a report of sexual abuse that occurred that Thursday afternoon in the vicinity of Gardner Hall on the Troy University campus.
The report was not made until Friday afternoon.
“Students have been alerted to take extra safety precautions when traveling about the campus at night,” said Cliff Lusk in a statement.
According the SOS safety alert, this is the third incident of this kind to be reported in that area of the campus. The first two incidents were assault and robbery incidents in the Shackleford Quad.
A list of safety precautions was provided in the alert, advising students not to talk to strangers and to use the “buddy system.”
“Additional police patrols, lighting and security patrols have been instituted,” Lusk said. “A black male wearing all black with a hoodie is being sought by Troy University Police in connections with this incident.”
While the police department is conducting the active investigation and making extra precautions, officers also will conduct safety briefings on campus Monday.
“Briefings will be held on the Troy campus on Monday to make students more aware of safety precautions,” Lusk said.
The incident remains under active investigation, and no further information about the incident has been released.
