The Charles Henderson Trojans look to eliminate costly mistakes as they host Eufaula tonight.

The Trojans (2-4, 1-2) lost the last two games on the road, and head coach Brad McCoy said eliminating the mistakes could make the difference in tonight’s game.

“The kids played extremely hard last Thursday night in Montgomery,” said Trojans head coach Brad McCoy. “I thought we played well enough to win that ball game with exception of two plays during the game.”

Those big plays surrendered by the Trojans have been a common theme in their four losses this season. The Trojans have struggled with turnovers and penalties, especially earlier in the year.

“The kids are pretty resilient,” McCoy said. “Our players understand that we are trying to get better each and every day of practice. They have responded right way and have done everything that we have asked them to do.”

McCoy said the team still has time to turn its season around.

“We have told them not to panic,” McCoy said. “We have played well enough to win, minus a couple of mistakes. Now we have to try and eliminate those and eventually we will be able to win those games.”

One thing the Trojans would like to see would be a more consistent offensive attack. In their two wins this season the Trojans have averaged 56 points, while in the four losses the Trojans have only put up an average of just under 12 points.

The Trojans continue to work towards a run to the playoffs and they have yet to relinquish both in games and during practice.

“Our expectations are to win,” McCoy said. “These kids work and practice too much not to be successful. Our kids understand that, they know that right now we are going through some growing pains, but we are going to keep our heads up.”

The Trojans return home to the friendly confines of Veterans Memorial Stadium for just the third time this season. The Trojans so far have enjoyed the homecoming wining 63-20 against Dale County and a defeat of Alabama Christian 49-7. “I think our players would rather, of course play at home than on the road,” McCoy said. “I think we are confident playing at home. We haven’t lost at home this year. I think that is something that the kids understand.”

Eufaula (5-1, 3-0) comes into the game tied for first place in the region with Greenville. The senior-laden team brings talent and experience into the match up with the Trojans.

Unlike the Trojans the Tigers have had no problem scoring consistently so far this season. Through their six games the Tigers have averaged nearly 40 points per game.

“They have a lot of experience,” McCoy said. “They weren’t very successful last year, we were able to be successful when we played them last year. They are going to be chomping at the bit to prove that they are a much better football team. It’s going to be a tough ballgame, we are going to have to do some things that may be unconventional to be able to gain some momentum.”

Eufaula and Charles Henderson will kick off at 7 p.m. this evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
