The City of Troy will be joining in the Troy University Homecoming festivities by hosting a Homecoming Party Friday night on The Square.
The Park Band will be performing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as part of the Parties on The Square series.
“The past few years, we have had a homecoming concert, but it was always done on Saturday,” said Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy. “We just know that there are so many different events and activities going on for Homecoming that day, we decided to move it to Friday night.”
With people coming into town for the Homecoming game, Windham said The Park Band would be able to entertain all ages of people. “The Park Band certainly appeals to people of all ages,” Windham said. “Everybody loves The Park Band. They play music most people are familiar with. We think a lot of alumni will be joining us Friday night.”
In addition to the Homecoming Party Friday night, Windham said the weekend presents a great opportunity to take advantage of the restaurants in Downtown Troy.
Downtown Troy will also be a hot spot on the morning of game day with the Troy University Homecoming parade. Windham said that the Downtown Shuttle will begin its routes immediately following the parade until game time, and will begin again after the game for two hours.
“Make sure to come back to The Square after the game,” Windham said. “The restaurants will have great food specials.”
The Homecoming parade will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the Trojan Walk at Troy University at 11:45. Kick off for the Homecoming game against Idaho is schedule for 2:30 p.m.
The next event scheduled in the Parties on The Square series will be the Fifth Saturday Pumpkins on the Square on Oct. 31.
