The Goshen Peewee Eagles defeated Brantley Saturday afternoon to win their second straight Super Bowl and cap off an undefeated season.

“They were very eager to learn,” said Eagles head coach Dee Brundidge. “We had to play against some really good recreation teams this year and they really tested us.”

The Eagles finished the season with an 8-0 record. The Eagles shutout four of their eight opponents in 2015 and outscored their opponents 164-34 on the season.

“We played together on defense,” Brundidge said. “We did really with communication and we played our positions. We taught them to not try to do too much and not to be bigger than the team.”

The players had to learn the game of football for them to be successful and that is just what they did.

“I had to teach them the right way to play football,” Brundidge said. “There is only one way to play it. I just tried to instill work ethic and teach them to play the game the right way.”

Brundidge also coaches the running backs on the varsity team. “I really believe that no matter what age, if a kid is not up to par that means the coach hasn’t spent enough time with that kid,” Brundidge said. “Everything I tell them they get to see live and in person. They get to come to the game’s on Friday so they know what to expect on Saturdays.”

The peewee team is comprised of 11- and 12-year-olds, many of which had never played the game of football. “This year was more of a challenge,” Brundidge said. “We lost between 12 to 14 kids from last year’s team to the junior varsity.

“I told the coaching staff that this year is really going to test us,” Brundidge said. “We really had to coach our guys up. There were a few that played on the team last year but then we had some that was raw. We had to keep coaching and keep coaching. We wound up being one of the best teams that I have ever coached.”

Winning a championship creates many life long memories and that was defiantly the case this season.

“The heart and discipline on this team was better than any team that I have ever coached,” Brundidge said. “The one thing I am going to take from this season is their drive and determination. Nobody thought we were going to be able to go undefeated this year.”
