Gaines “James” Messick

Gaines “James” Messick, age 84, of Troy, Alabama, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015. A funeral service will be held, Saturday, November 21, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Reverends Curtis Faulkner and Neal Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans Garden of Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Sandy Messick, Wesley Messick, Wade Messick, Waylon Messick, Daniel Mount, and Derrel Mount serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Messick was a proud veteran having served during the Korean War and a retired officer from the Alabama Board of Corrections. He was a devout family man with an abundant love for his wife, children and grandchildren. Mr. Messick was preceded in death by his parents, William Sanford and Alma Jeffcoat Messick. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy Singleton Messick; children, Lisa (Derrel) Mount, William (Linda) Messick, Donald Messick, and Gary (Tana) Messick; grandchildren, Daniel Mount, Audrey Corley, Sanford Messick, Jessica Wilson, Wesley Messick, Wade Messick, Waylon Messick, Ashley Powell, Austin Messick, Kyle Kirkhart, Brice Kirkhart, and Cassie Kirkhart; four great-grandchildren; niece, Diane Reynolds; and nephew, Mike White.
