Thanksgiving is today, but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Adams Glass Studio on Highway 231 south of Troy. So, that’s an indication that the longtime tradition of Open House at Adams Glass Studio continues.

Charles Adams, owner and glass artist, said he and his family look forward to Open House each year.

“The Open House is an opportunity to showcase our glass art and to enjoy the fellowship of friends and neighbors and to welcome newcomers to the shop,” Adams said. “We also welcome the guest artists, new and familiar.”

As tradition dictates, the Open House at Adams Glass Studio opens on the Friday after Thanksgiving and continues through the weekend. The Adams family will host a wine and cheese party from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday. Weekend hours are from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday.

“We have an exciting Open House planned this year beginning with the wine and cheese party on Friday night,” Adams said. “We really enjoy the party because it’s informal and relaxed. Everyone has a good time.”

Linda Walter, the daughter of noted glass artist, the late Ed Walter of Troy, has several pieces of her dad’s kiln-fired glass art for sale.

‘The pieces are from my personal collection and several of them are unique to the work that my dad is known for,” Walter said. “His ‘Tree of Life’ is, to me, one of his most outstanding pieces. I also found pieces done in black which are unusual for him.”

Adams will welcome back Frances Davenport with her popular bonnets and aprons and dog clothing and Carol McCrady with her papyrus art.

“Carol makes the papyrus paper and then uses it as a canvas,” Adams said. “Her angels are collectors’ items. Potter Dawn Priest will be here and folks will remember her because she sells out TroyFest and probably everywhere she goes.”

Rex Thrash is a regular at Adams’ Open House with his walking/hiking sticks, rustic birdhouses and feeders and squirrel feeders.

“We’ll have Brent Holmes’ music CDs for kids and several foodlore and folklore books” Adams said. “And, we’ll have what we are calling ‘A Beveled Christmas,’ with a variety of beveled glass items including crosses, angels and ornaments. We’ll also have glass Santas and snowmen, which are new this year.”

Adams has designed several glass figures to honor local personalities.

“We will have a stained glass figure honoring the late Doug Hawkins and his dog Sue Ellen that we are calling ‘Dougie’ and we have stained glass Nativity scenes, angels and crosses of different sizes,” Adams said. “We have collegiate logo items for Troy University, Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee and window panels and other unique glass items”

Adams Nut Shop has all kinds of food items, including pepper jelly, honey, syrups, homemade candies, boiled and fried peanuts and Charles’ Cousin Corkey’s sour cream pound cakes and his famous Adams Corn Meal.

“We invite everybody to stop by Adams Glass Studio and Nut Shop this weekend, if just long enough to say howdy and drink down a short Coke,” Adams said.
