Christmas Carols on The Square Sunday

Christmastime comes with a lot of things like decorations, parties, gifts, but a favorite tradition is Christmas carols. The radio plays the joyful tunes nonstop, and everyone hums them without even realizing it.
The City of Troy will be hosting the first Christmas Carols on The Square Sunday afternoon with choirs across the city providing the music. Choirs will begin singing at 2 p.m. and the program will conclude at 4:30.
Five choirs have volunteered their time to perform carols in Downtown Troy, each with 30-minute time slots.
“It is going to be a nice variety of music and genres,” said Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy.
The New Hope Mass choir will open the program, followed by the Pike Liberal Arts Choir, the First Baptist Church of Troy choir, the Hephzibah Baptist Church choir and the Park Memorial Methodist Church choir.
Each choir has the freedom to create their own set lists, allowing for a variety of music.
Windham said that the City of Troy wanted to bring back some Christmas traditions for the locals.
“Carolers used to go door to door and sing Christmas carols,” Windham said. “Christmas Carols on the Square is our own version of the tradition that we wanted to bring to Downtown Troy.”
Anyone can come and stay for the entire event or listen to the carols while they do some Christmas shopping on The Square.
“Downtown businesses will be open so anyone can take care of some Christmas shopping,” Windham said. “Several of the shops will be open for the caroling event.”
Most shops and restaurants are closed each Sunday, but are willing to open for those attending Christmas Carols on the Square.
Christmas Carols on The Square begins at 2 p.m. Sunday in Downtown Troy.
“Don’t miss out on a cherished Christmas tradition,” Windham said.
