In today’s fast-paced world, even Christmas seems to hurry along. But the Pioneer Museum of Alabama pulls back on the rein and brings Christmas to slow and casual pace at its Old Time Christmas weekend each year.

Old Time Christmas 2015 will be from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the museum. Everyone is invited to come and experience Christmas as it was when the world moved at a slower pace and people took time to enjoy the simple pleasures of the season.

Seth Kinard, museum assistant director, said the museum grounds will be beautifully lighted to make strolling from place to place somewhat magical.

Several stations on the grounds will tell the story of Christmas and the real reason that Christmas is celebrated.

“We will have hot apple cider and hot chocolate in several of the cabins,” Kinard said. “In the Demonstration Cabin, apple cider will be heating on the wood stove and visitors may roast marshmallows over the fire the fireplace.”

Santa Claus will hear children’s Christmas wishes in the Village Center. The children will have an opportunity to make a Christmas ornament to take home as a keepsake of Old Time Christmas.

“Christmas stories will be read in the Village Center and maybe stories shared,” Kinard said.

“We’ll have caroling and music played and the carols of Christmas sung in the Log Church.”

Singing in the Log Church will be led by the Rev. Ed Shirley and other singers and musicians. Those who visit the church will be invited to stay and join in the singing of the familiar and favorite songs of the season.

Admission to Old Time Christmas is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for children ages six to 12. Children ages five and under will be admitted free.

Old Time Christmas is a wonderful way for families to share the fun and wonder of the holidays and everyone is invited, Kinard said.
