Crenshaw’s game plan to implement a four corner offense didn’t work and the Patriots raced out to a 30-9 lead at the half.

“They tried to stall the ball, which is unusual for us,” Hawkins said. “I thought the girls played good and adjusted to their tactics.”

In the second half, Crenshaw tried to trick up the Patriots once more by switching to a man defense, something Pike caught on to quickly. The Patriots outscored Crenshaw 26-2 in the second half.

Lauren Johnson who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

The game caps an eight-win streak to end the Patriots’ season. With the area tournament set to get underway, coach Hawkins hopes his team is peaking at the right time.

“I hope we can keep our momentum up,” Hawkins said. “You always worry about peaking at the right time. I kind of feel like we are. We wanted to keep playing strong and not play sloppy.”

Hawkins said the team is playing with a wealth of confidence heading into the area tournament.

“I think we are feeling pretty good right now,” Hawkins said. “You almost worry about feeling too good. We may get over confident, but I don’t think that we are. I really like this group and I feel like we have our heads on straight.”

The Patriots have had consistent contributions from players like Parker and Johnson. As of late the players like Susie Stell and Mya Terry have given the Patriots a much more balanced attack.

“I think that is huge,” Hawkins said. “I think after we lost to Fort Dale we put more of an emphasis on getting everybody involved in the scoring. Most of them have gotten a lot more active and that has opened up everything.”

The Patriots have a first-round bye and will play at 3:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of the Morgan and Escambia Academy matchup.
