A variance request to locate a mobile home at 301 John Lewis Drive was approved at Thursday’s Board of Adjustments meeting.

The request was carried over because the board failed to take action on it during its April meeting.

Rita and Sylvester Jackson submitted the request in order to move their mother into the mobile home in order to make necessary renovations to her existing home.

According to City Planner Calvin Lott, the lot is the only one located on John Lewis Drive not already zoned for a mobile home.

The board approved a variance to allow a small business to open at 381 Alabama Highway 87, which is in an R-1 low density residential zoning district.

According to David Bradford, who requested the variance, Barbara Ward and Elizabeth Motes would open a knick knack-type shop, and would not be a high traffic area and only one to two cars would be parked at the business at a time.

A variance was approved to allow for construction of a salon shop at 727 East Academy Street in a R-3 high-density residential zoning district.

A new day care will locate at 309 Second Avenue after the board approved a variance to allow it to be located in a R-2, medium density zoning district.

Dawn P. Andress requested the variance to open the three-children day care for working mothers and fathers.

Andress said she had already obtained a license to operate the day care from the Department of Human Resources and the home had been inspected.
