The Brantley Bulldogs spoiled Goshen’s home opener on Monday defeating the Eagles 13-3.

“I thought we came out pretty confident,” said Eagles head coach Amy Warrick. “Actually I thought we looked really good until the fifth inning … then the wheels fell off the bus. It was just one error right after another.”

Katlyn Gamble got the Eagles offense started in the bottom of the second with a base hit. Kate Warrick drove her in with an RBI double to right field.

After starting pitcher Sydni Garrett shut the door in the second inning, the Eagles tacked on two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Carmen Kelly connected on a double that scored Hannah Calhoun and Garrett added a double of her own, scoring Kelley to increase their lead out to 3-0.

Garrett began to struggle in the fourth inning.

With the bases loaded and one out Garrett threw a wild pitch to the backstop that scored one run. After the throw sailed over an Eagle player’s head, two more Bulldogs came around to score and tie the game.

The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning to go up 5-3.

With the bases loaded and the Eagles down 6-3 the Eagles decided to make a pitching change.

“I thought (Garrett) did a great job,” Warrick said. “She is a young pitcher… It’s hard for a pitcher when your defense starts making errors behind you.”

In all the Bulldogs scored eight runs in the sixth inning.

Kelly led the Eagles with two hits on the night including a double.

The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday when they host Ariton.
