The Brundidge City Council met Tuesday and worked from a two-item agenda. The council considered a transfer of city property and reviewed the FY2016 January financials.

The council voted to transfer 35 acres in the city’s North Industrial Park to the Brundidge Industrial Development Board. The council’s vote gave authority to the Brundidge mayor and city manager to sign the deed for the transfer of the property. The ID Board will deal with Magnolia Vegetables Processors as the company moves forward with the purchase of land within the park and the loan process for its planned industrial development.

MVP is seeking a low-interest low from South Alabama Electric cooperative for equipment. Britt Thomas, Brundidge city manager, said when the loan is repaid, the funds will be placed in a revolving loan fund and made available for other projects within the area.

Thomas said the property had been survey and the city will provide sewage, power and water to the site.

In the review of the city’s financial for January, Thomas said the city’s revenue and expenses are tracking as budgeted. One item of interest was that, for the first time, budgeted expenses for the Brundidge Police Department topped $1 million.

Thomas advised the council that the city’s Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library was featured on the front page of the “Appleseed” library newsletter for its Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration activities.
