The Community Advancement Foundation (CAF) in partnership with Kappa Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., recently held its annual Pink Hat Scholarship Program at Enterprise State Community College.

The program provided high school seniors in the Wiregrass the opportunity to compete for scholarship money via public speaking. They had to speak on the topic, “Police brutality has covered media headlines for decades. Why do you think citizens across the nation continue to be enraged when the motto of law enforcement is ‘To protect and serve’?”

Chelsey Holland, Pike County High School, was the winner of the $1,500 scholarship.

Jacob Heath, Enterprise High School, won second place and the $1,000 scholarship, Chelsea Craddock, Abbeville High School won third place and a $750 scholarship, and Alexis Truitt, New Brockton High School won a $100 book scholarship. These scholarships will be awarded when the participants enter college in the fall.

Dorothy L. Smith is president of Kappa Pi Omega Chapter, and Linda Garrett is president of CAF.

Barbara Cole serves as chair of the scholarship committee, and Vanessa Johnson presided during the  program.
