The Troy Ozone Rookie team advanced to the winner’s bracket of the district tournament on Thursday after defeating long time rival Enterprise 5-4.

Troy will play Eufaula on Friday at 6 p.m. for the second game.

JD Wilson, Brady Huner and Mario Davenport combined to pitch the six innings for the Rookies they surrendered four runs on four hits.

After Enterprise got on the board in the first inning, the Rookies answered quickly in the second when they put two runs in the bottom of the second. Huner drove in the first run when he grounded out, allowing Payne Jefcoat to score. Wilson drove in Brady Barron for the final run of the inning.

Enterprise added three runs in the third inning for a 4-2 lead.

Once again Troy rebounded and scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead. Kase Chirico drove in Davenport on a single and was followed by Jefcoat who belted a two-run homerun to give Troy the lead.

The pitching slammed the door the rest of the way to secure the win for the Rookies.

The Rookies finished with seven hits in the game and were led by Davenport who finished with two.
